Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Copy of an agreement to lease a property in Baltimore owned by the Remingtons to Davidson, Clark & Co., a wholesale liquor business, for one year at a rent of $1500. On reverse are notes dated 26 and 27 December 1873 extending the lease of the property. Another note dated 26 February 1874 terminates the lease.
