At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses the recent arrival of a chief justice who lives near the Schuylkill River (near Philadelphia). Mentions an upcoming jury held for a judgment pertaining to Miss [Prius?]. Discusses possibly moving a trial or meeting to Lancaster, Pennsylvania from Philadelphia. Expresses concern regarding the health of citizens in both Philadelphia and Lancaster. Refers to the possible arrival of Breckinridge, and states "I am afraid our Citizens will be too eager to return from the Country which may produce a relapse, if any of the seeds of the fever yet remain in the City, as I still suspect." Discusses his apprehension of venturing to certain parts of Philadelphia due to the dangers posed by the yellow fever epidemic. Includes a post script requesting Yeates to contact the Surveyor General regarding John [Vanderen's?] warrant. Docketed by Yeates.
