Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The prints of various sizes are stitched in original blue paper wrapper. Includes lithographs of the White House, cut-away views of Fulton's steamboat the "Chancellor Livingston," and six aquatint views of Philadelphia and New York's Broadway. There is one view of a bucolic Hoboken, New Jersey. Includes two maps of the east coast of the United States.
