General Sherman writes to U.S. Minister to Germany to introduce Colonel George B. Corkhill, the editor of the Washington Chronicle, who was traveling in Europe. He comments "out here on the Mississippi we don't fear Kaiser or Pope." Further comments that a baseball game interests the people more than "a cardinal's encyclical" in this jocular introduction.
