Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Alie Bailey is to receive half of the corn, cotton, and fodder cultivated in return for providing all the work necessary to keep up the farm, assisting in putting up fences, and cultivating forty acres of cotton and corn. Amongst other things, Isham Bailey is responsible for providing farming tools, furnishing two mules and forage for the mules, and land sufficient to cultivate six hundred pounds of meat. With three 2-cent revenue stamps.
