Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also signed by Jared Eliot, Anthony Stoddard, Benjamin Lord, William Russel, Thomas Ruggles, Solomon Williams, and Elnathan Whitman as Fellows. Written in Latin on parchment with a fabric ribbon attached. Accompanied by English translation. William Ellery graduated from Harvard College in 1747. A Member of the Continental Congress from 1776 until 1785, Ellery was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Clap signs as President of Yale College.
