Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Lists troops totals under General Burgoyne at the end of the Saratoga Campaign. Divided into 4 categories, exclusive of artillery: those fit for service, those on guard duty, officers servants, and scouting rangers. Further subdivided between British and German troops. Does not include sick troops. Provides totals: 3,499 total fit for service, 180 on guard duty, 201 officers servants, and 96 scouting rangers. Written on a piece of cardboard or card stock.
