Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Holabird asks Theodore Hinsdale if he told Horace Hinsdale that Holabird recommended Colonel Soper as Justice to General Adams on the grounds that Soper was an anti-mason. Includes Theodore's reply of the same day, informing Holabird he did not pass the message to Horace.

Holabird was District Attorney for the State of Connecticut during the Amistad trial.
