"Religion in the Confederate Army," reprinted from the Richmond Eunquirer, details minutes of the annual meeting of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, including reports of publications, army evangelists, chaplains, tract depositories, and need for laborers. An account of a dying soldier titled "Mother's Influence" marks the influence of his mother on his happy and pious death. A blurb titled "Northern Women" compares them against Southern women. "Secular News" reports on Petersburg and Richmond, shelling on Charleston, and attack on Fort Johnson, amongst other items.

The purpose of this journal, according to its first issue, is the advancement of the Baptist denomination in both intelligence and piety, while giving support to the Confederacy. Thousands of copies were distributed to soldiers.
