At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Shows roads, streams, and some troop positions. Drawn on a scale of 200 paces or 133-1/3 yards to an inch. The Battle of Seven Pines took place on 31 May 1862-1 June 1862. Blanchard served as Chief Quartermaster, 4th Corps. Mostly black & white, with some red ink. C.D. Blanchard was possibly Captain Claude D. Blanchard, an assistant quartermaster of volunteers who enlisted on 28 August 1861, served as lieutenant colonel quartermaster on 19 September to 12 Nov 1862, and was honorably discharged on 9 May 1863.
