No free frank. Orders Colonel White to send two troops from the regiment to Baltimore to pick up cavalry supplies. Specifies that one should be Captain David Hopkins's. Marked no. 1 at top. Free frank in clerical hand.

Notes: Published in Fitzpatrick Vol. 14:66 from draft in the hand of Alexander Hamilton. Washington had written to Capt. David Hopkins telling him that his request for a furlough was denied but his troop would be stationed at Baltimore. "I shall be glad if this arrangement may answer your purpose, instead of a furlough."

Sir,
A quantity of forage having been provided at Baltimore for the reception of a small body of cavalry; You will, on receipt of this, detach two troops of the Regiment under your command to that place, one of which for particular reasons, I desire to be Capt Hopkins' - This will contribute to the more easy accommodation and subsistence of the Regiment.
