Forbes attests to receiving $100 from Arthur Henrie, "receiver of the public Monies at Nacogdoches...for closing the land offices." Some arithmetic appears on the verso.

Forbes had been appointed to the General Council to negotiate a treaty with the Cherokee. He was given the rank of major and served as aide-de-camp to Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto.
Henrie was a surveyor for the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company in Nacogdoches, Texas.
