Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Certifies Obediah Hendrick's purchase of land in San Augustine, Texas, from William Ward for $230. John Hendrick signed as Obediah Hendrick's lawyer and A. Hotchiss signed as "P Judge." Blount signed as a witness along with J.D. Thomas.

Blount, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, was a soldier and county official in San Augustine County.
