At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Concerns the cession of Arapahoe and Cheyenne land, their removal, and the remuneration they will receive. Authorized by President Abraham Lincoln. Treaty arranged by Albert G. Boone and F.B. Culver, Commissioners on the part of the United States, and Arapahoe and Cheyenne leaders on 18 February 1861 (and proclaimed on 5 December 1861).
