Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Nancy's grandmother discusses meeting Ellis (see related GLC09597, GLC09603, and GLC09605) and explains that he "has to work out his own way right now," having been in the war. She mentions Tillie (Te Te) who has not heard from Charles. She states she has been sewing and that she was glad to see Nancy, telling her to "study hard and have a good time."
