Nancy's mother discusses her changed plans to not leave Grace King High School where she is employed and the various interactions with the school's staff. She mentions her own birthday and the gift from Nancy's father (Bob), Nancy, Bobby, and Stevie. Nancy's mother reminds her to write to her grandmother and Herbert.
