Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One trading card from the Red Menace collection, "12. Heroes of Turkey" depicting Turkish and Chinese soldiers engaged in hand-to-hand combat. Reverse side contains propaganda narrative regarding Turkish forces aiding against North Korea. Text describes an instance in which Turkish forces fought for 48 hours until they were aided by the "White-starred United States tanks."

The Turkish Brigade served with the United Nations during the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. They were the second country to offer aid to the United Nation's request regarding the situation in North Korea.
