One wirephoto entitled, "Picking Out Some Shoes," taken by the Associated Press, dated August 14, 1965. Image is of a man reaching into the broken window of a shoe store. Wire transfer information states that the image taken was of a broken storefront in Los Angeles, following the Watts riots. Refers to the riots as "Uncontrolled looting and arson -- which hundreds of police have been unable to stop for three nights -- has brought the California National Guard's assistance."

The Watts riots took place in the Watts district of Southern Los Angeles from August 11th -August 16th. The riots resulted in 34 dead, 1,032 injured, 4,000 arrested and around $40 million worth of property damage.
