Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster entitled, "Keep the Faith! Invest in the Victory Liberty Loan!" Text displays a dedication to Herman Korth, who was German-born sergeant who was honored for his actions in a battle near Juvigny, France during World War I. Portrait of Korth is signed by Joseph Cummings Chase which states that it was painted at the front of the lines.

Herman Korth (1877-1936) was an American decorated soldier who served during World War I.
