Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One map entitled A Map of Part of the Rivers Faleme & Sanaga with the Countries of Bambuk & Tamba Awra drawn on the spot by M. Compagnon dated 1750. Features detailed map of the Faleme and Sanaga rivers and the cities and countries that the river runs through. In addition to Bambuk and Tamba Awra the map shows the countries; Gayaga, and Galam, and marks the edged of bordering countries; Bondu, Haeren Kobe, Gadua, and Jaka. The map also notes the Kingdoms of Kontu, Kombre, Gudu and Makanna. There are multiple smaller rivers that run off the main rivers that are also named.
