Network with New Friends and Meet Up with Old Friends at the GLI Teacher Symposium This Summer

In July 2022, teachers from across the United States learned, networked, and grew together as they worked closely with renowned scholars in various fields of American history at the Gilder Lehrman Teacher Symposium at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.

As we look forward to returning to Gettysburg in 2023, we highlight here teachers’ responses to a survey question after their Symposium experience. As invaluable as these courses are, as significant as it is to be learning about all eras of American history in one of the most pivotal sites in American history, it is the opportunity to join a community of K–12 history teachers from across the country that tops most responses.

In our survey after the 2022 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Symposium, we asked:

What did you enjoy most about the Symposium?

The teachers responded:

Trivia Night at the 2022 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Symposium“Meeting new friends, connecting with old friends, and the opportunity to meet and learn from incredible scholars and experts in their fields, the vast trove of resources to which I was introduced. And of course trivia night!!”

“I enjoyed being in Gettysburg, I really enjoyed the scholars and the different talks they gave, but the top experience is always meeting other enthusiastic history teachers.”

“The lectures and content was excellent. The networking with other teachers was great.”

“The course itself, the chance to meet and share ideas with other teachers from around the country, and the chance to explore Gettysburg a little.”

Teachers from across the country in a work session at the Symposium“Time to engage with other teachers and learn from each other.”

“Spending time networking with colleagues and meeting new people.”

“I really enjoyed connecting with teachers over various content areas.”

“I enjoyed the time with fellow teachers around the country and sharing stories about our teaching experiences.”

“Meeting up with old friends to attend this symposium. We came from three different states to attend this program.”
