Promotes the Union cause. Reprints an interview with Lincoln titled Mr. Lincoln's view of Democratic strategy, and a letter of General Grant dated 16 August 1864 to E.B. Washburne. Grant's letter informs that the Confederacy is very weak and losing men each day. Also printed is the verses to a song, "On the Chicago Surrender."
