Question 1

For what claim does this document provide evidence?

Answer

The male leaders of SNCC prioritized the skills and leadership capability of women in the organization and sought to actively fight both gender and racial discrimination.

Women were leaders in the Civil Rights movement, though they often faced gender discrimination within the major organizations, such as SNCC.

Compared to the leaders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the leaders of SNCC were more likely to prioritize gender equality.

While gender discrimination existed within the Civil Rights movement, women in the movement accepted this discrimination as inevitable.
