Discusses Beriah Wilkins', the owner and editor of the Washington Post, upcoming trip to Paris. Tells Day that Wilkins is not seeking employment but does want to be of help, if he can be. Written on Executive Mansion letterhead. Day was president of the U.S. Peace Commission in Paris and Secretary of State.

[Aus.] Nov. 2, 98
Executive Mansion, Washington.
Dear Judge Day,
Mr. Beriah Wilkins leaves in a day or two for Paris. He will call upon you - he knows of the letter I have written you concerning him. He does not go on the strength of that letter, but because he has business which takes him there, while there he will talk to you fully and he only wants to be helpful if in your judgment he can be. He is not seeking a job, as you well know, but is patriotic enough to want to serve the [2] Country in any way possible.
You will require no introduction, as you know him. You can be entirely frank with him in this matter, as he only seeks the public good.
My letter which you have already received will acquaint you with his suggestions.

Sincerely
William McKinley
