Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies that Asa Copeland has been serving as a Conductor of Military Stores since 21 April 1779 and that he is still serving as such. He is therefore entitled to his pay and the depreciations of his pay during this period, deducting whatever money might already have been received from the public.
