Dear Sam:
Your letter recd. I spent yesterday at Roanoke - saw Andrew. Willie thinks you ought to have a free delivery from your office - that it wd. Relieve you of half the work you now do - that it wd. Of course be far more agreeable to the patrons of the office to have their mail brought to them than to go after it themselves & that you are the proper person to apply for it. He had it done here. Now some of your friends wd. Get places or ?. Nobody gets anything in this world without asking for it. So urge Hitchcock to give you a free delivery. I return to Washington tomorrow (1130th 12th St.) I wish you ed. Go there & see Hitchcock - no doubt - the patrons wd. Sign a petition for free delivery. Revencomb could attend to that for you. My article wh. the N.Y. Herold has accepted will be syndicated - i. E. published on Sunday, the same day in a number of copies in different places wide apart. I think the Herold syndicates with the Wash. Post. If so it will be in both papers in the Sunday Magazine section on the same Sunday. It tells how Gen. Lee saved Pope's army. Hugh will cry when he reads it.
