Dear Parents

Your letter of the 27th came to hand this morning and after a good deal of circumlacution and babulition & Spontainious combustion etc etc etc I managed to come at the contents thereof. & will without any mallice or forethought as the land sharks say write you that I have sold the boots and will get the pay for them pay day. I would like to have another pair the other was to small in the instep they was none to long I guess you will have to get NO.8 I have got a very small foot but a big boot fits it best. if the legs are little shorter I dont care only I want them big enough round to tuck my pants into. I would rather had my boots than shermans if he did give $9.00 for them. I dont want any paptent leather tops but I dont want any clumsy ones. I exchanged papers yesterday with the rebs but our officers got wind of it and come rould taking them away from the boys. and I dropped mine into the fire before they got to me. will try and get one to day from some of the boys and will send you one. we get them the same day they are printed have you sent any papers lately I aint got any if you have, they are going to vote in our Regt eletion day. all of our Co goes for Abe except me. I cant vote so I go for Mac.
When you get my boots if you go to Providence after them get me a lead pencil one made of Gutta percha with a screw on it you cna get one to Bang Williams on westminster or any Periodical store for half a dollar with a box of lead. you can send that in a letter I guess - I dont know - but I guess but then neverthe less notwithstanding although (but) if you cant send it in a letter, send it in something else. give my love to Emma and tell her to take our old cat and put her tail through her nose holes and tie a knot in it and then give her a piece of sirloin steak if she wont eat steak give her a hard tack and put a flat on her back and tell her to Mizzle by the left flank file left. I dont know of any more to write so I will have to - close up - by saying good bye write soon as you get this letter
From your Son
