Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Card admitting Kellogg and his family to the inauguration of President Lincoln.

Orlando Kellogg was Republican Reprensentative from New York elected to the thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth Congresses. He served from March 4, 1863, until his death on August 24, 1865.
George to Brown was the Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate.
