Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This document appears to be a copy of an invoice sent from Lieutenant Stephen Kemble to John and Robert Stenhouse, which was answered and sent back to Kemble. The document is concluded with a postscript from P. M. Farlin. As a result, it is believed that this document is a copy of the original written by Peter M. Farlin.
