At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One signed photograph of astronaut Vance Brand. The photograph is an official portrait issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The photo has been signed on the right hand side. Features Vance Brand in front of an American flag, and model of a space shuttle. His uniform features a NASA Vector and a name patch. Brand is also holding a space suit helmet. On the reverse side of the photograph is a copyright notice from NASA.

Vance DeVoe Brand is an American former naval officer and aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He served as command module pilot during the first U.S.-Soviet joint spaceflight in 1975, and as commander of three Space Shuttle missions.
