Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Lane signed as Captain. Certifies that he has received a bounty of 24 pounds from Benjamin Randall for each man from Stoughtonham, Massachusetts who served in the army for three years. Lists the names of the men.

Seller's note: A bounty was given soldiers as an incentive to either serve or re-enlist.
