Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Orders Gashry to pay the debts owed to various military personel. Also signed by Signed by W.B. Earle and Charles Frederick. Written from the Office of Ordnance.

Francis Gashry was the Treasurer and Paymaster of the Office of Ordnance. John Ligonier was an earl, officer, and in 1757 became colonel of the First Foot Guards. Fort Ligonier is named after him.
