Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The document states that Jacob Van Valkenburgh, Gerrit Van Hoesen, and Abraham Wyngardt have purchased a tract of land near Kinderhook from Hugh Munro. Jacob Van Valkenburgh was the only one to sign. P.2 has 2 signed statements by Hugh Munro. The first acknowledges receipt of payment from Jacob Van Valkenburgh, and the second orders the payment of the account to Robert Livingston, Jr. Docketed on verso.
