Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed receipt for ordnance issued to Lieutenant Adolphus B. Frame from Captain Alex Cochran of the 116th Ohio Infantry Regiment. Among the items listed are 46 Springfield rifle muskets. Received at Sleepy Creek, West Virginia. Envelope stored with others at the end of the decimalized group.
