Mary Ellen's death becomes a focus towards the end of the collection. Mentions fighting with William Tecumseh Sherman. Also includes description of fighting at Cedar Bluff, Alabama; Bowling Green, Kentucky; Kingston, North Carolina; and Nashville, Tennessee.

How long we will stay hear it depends on the moving of the Rebs I suppose they will try to Bother us as mutch as they can a bout the election day to hinder us from voating if they can they tried it at the State Election but we vouated on the march we had an ambulance in the Rear of the Regt So we could hold the Election...General Sherman Said in his orders that we would forage Brilenetly...we strip the country it is hard but we are orderd to take all the provision that we find and that leavs some of the women and children in a starving condition it is not Right to take all that they have how would we stand that kind of work if the Rebs was in ower State and would take all we had and compel us to come to the Government for something to to get Well they are Rebels and we can't protect them.
