Gillespie, postmistress for the Central Fair, directs Fair participants to "Letter-Boxes, as a great convenience to all desiring to correspond with visitors to the Fair; as well as for letters to be delivered throughout the City, or at the Post Office for mailing." Summarizes mailing requirements and rates.
The Great Central Fair for the United States Sanitary Commission opened in June 1864 in Logan Square, Philadelphia. The Fair was held to raise funds for Union soldiers in need of basic necessities and medical supplies.

REVEREND AND DEAR SIR:
The undersigned have had devolved on them, by the friends of the United States Sanitary Commission, the duty of soliciting from all MINISTERS OF THE GOSPEL in the States of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, of all religious denominations, ONE DAY'S SALARY, INCOME OR REVENUE, in behalf of the funds of the Great Central Sanitary Fair, to be held in this City, in the month of June next, for the benefit of the sick and wounded sailors and soldiers.
All other professions, trades and occupations are readily responding to this appeal, and it is taken for granted, that the Clergy will not be behind the most "cheerful giver." You are, therefore, most kindly requested to respond in the manner indicated, as well by your own personal offering, as by the enlistment of your Congregation and Sabbath-school. When many of our brave volunteers have left the comforts of home, and in defence of their country - have sacrificed life and limb - how small a pittance does it seem for those, who are in the enjoyment of their own peaceful and happy firesides, to sacrifice, at least, one day's revenue to the same noble cause.
We are happy to state that many of the Clergy have already sent their contributions. Proverbial as are the Ministers of the Gospel for their loyalty, we confidently trust that not one will be found to turn a deaf ear to this appeal.
