Pelouze, major and aide-de-camp, writes to Captain Badeau, also an aide-de-camp. Pelouze reports that when reading the Army and Navy Official Gazette, he discovered that Badeau will be recommended for dismissal unless he appears before a military commission in Washington, headed by General James Ricketts, within seven days. Offers his services to Badeau, asking if he may present his case to the board. Reminisces about old times spent at the "E.C." Feels confident that Badeau can defend his case in person. Notes that he will write to General Richard Busteed and his wife. Remarks, "I want to talk to you of the wound you received fighting for our glorious Union- to hear from you of all that was done at Port Hudson..." Finishes the letter at the end of page three, and writes again on page four, apparently at a later date. Reports that he inquired at the Adjutant General's Office, and found that Badeau does not have to appear before the board, but may submit his case in writing.
Pelouze became a Brigadier General in March, and Badeau in April of 1865 (by brevet).
