Materials relating to the execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti in 1927.

Historical Background: On May 5, 1920, Sacco and Vanzetti were arrested for the robbery and murder of a paymaster and his guard. The two men were recognized by the authorities as anarchist militants who had been extensively involved in labor strikes, political agitation, and antiwar propaganda. Their arrest coincided with the period of intense political repression in America called the "Red Scare," 1919-20, and many felt their conviction resulted not from the evidence of the case but from prejudice against them as Italian immigrants and because of their radical political beliefs. They were found guilty in 1921 and were executed 23 August 1927.
