At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Transmits to the governor of Maryland "an Act providing for the Expenses which may attend Negotiations or Treaties with the Indian Tribes, and the appointment of Commissioners for managing the same." With presentation note on verso indicating that this document was given as a gift to Count Donadio of Spain by Brantz Mayer on 10 November 1876.
