At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also lists those that did not reapply, including the recipient. Discusses his room, his classes, classmates, teachers, and other everyday matters. Asks him to write soon. Hutson graduated from South Carolina College in 1859. Hutson was a Corporal, 1st South Carolina Infantry, during the Civil War.
