Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

32 photographs in two publishing dummies. One is a publishing dummy for "Life and Portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Some of his Contemporaries" (for the Quill Club 2/12/1909), a publishing dummy in black wrappers, containing 20 photographs (adhered). The other is a booklet "Abraham Lincoln" (made for Meserve's daughter and editor Dorothy Meserve Kunhardt, 1950) with 12 photographs inserted by their corners into the leaves. Both booklets are signed by Meserve.
