Has not written to them for some time and therefore feels obligated to do so. No news to write about; "it is about the same routine of duties every day." Does not know where they will be going next or when they will be doing so. Is "about ready to go back" to Virginia again. Does not like the structure of military life in Fort Hamilton. "My health is good as ever." Is eating very well. Has gotten some oysters from the harbor and has access to all sorts of meat and vegetables. "I can't tell the reason why but there are no signs of any furloughs being given as yet." People in the field are getting furloughs but his regiment is not. One of the reasons he wants to go back to Virginia is so that the officers "won't have such a nice time of it." Wants to come home at least for one night; does not care how much it costs. Will also go to Mystic to see Ann. Actually wants to see a lot of friends.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
