At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thanks Hedges for editing a copy of his (Harrison's) speeches and for a book of them which Hedges compiled. Writes that "[t]he care you have taken in the arrangement of these extempore utterances and the good style in which the book is gotten up are very gratifying to me; and I beg to thank you for your interest as well as for the copy of the book sent me." Written on lined executive stationery with header: Executive Mansion Washington. Stationery watermarked as The American Linen Paper. One bust engraving of Harrison included.
