Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by nine other men, the Commission officers, the selectmen, and the Committee of Safety of the town. States that eight men were hired to go to Fishkill for 110 pounds each, three men were hired to go to Peekskill for 80 pounds each, and three men hired for Peekskill at 11 pounds per month until the company is discharged.
