Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Greene to "give an order to my Quarter Master" for a list of items which his regiment is "much wanting." The list, written below includes "35 kettles, 230 H. Sacks, 22 N. Sacks & 280 Lanterns," and is signed by William Blodget.

John Green was a colonel in the tenth Virginia.
