Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Payment of 246 pounds, 19 shillings, and 4 pence sterling for the provisions of Howe's 23rd Regiment of Foot. Money to be paid to Paymaster Captain James Drury. Partly printed document, numbered 38.

Carleton was Governor of Quebec and General and Commander in chief of all British forces in the American colonies.
