Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Dated 18 September and 11 or 12 October, but no year provided. On 18 September there were 2,120 effective troops. Received an additional 242 troops on 11 or 12 October. Notes 600 killed and wounded, leaving 1,762 troops. After receiving additional troops he notes a total of 2,320 soldiers at the bottom of the document. In Knox's hand. Title taken from docket.
