Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Strong signs as Massachusetts Governor. Also signed by John Avery, Secretary of State. Verso contains a note dated 25 February 1805 signed by Lieutenant Governor Edward Robbins. Much of the text of this note, including part of Robbins's signature, is missing due to text loss.
