Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Witnessed and signed by John Cruger and David Thomson. Partially printed document in which Thomas Leslie grants power of attorney to William Cochburn. Leslie needed Cochburn to help him obtain the fifty acres of land he had been granted for his service in Great Britain's army.

Cruger was a member of the Stamp Act Congress.
