Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The receipts cover military stores and supplies, transportation, services, and general expenditures. Most receipts are countersigned on verso. Includes collateral information listing the names on the receipts.

Captain John Bryant was the Master of Ordinance and Assistant Military Storekeeper at the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, and formerly the Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at the armory.
